Manuel Suárez Recio (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0122-8253), PhD in Food Technology, is associate professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), teaching in several degrees such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry and the master of Nutrition and Metabolism, among others. His doctoral studies in the UdL focused in the development of a functional olive oil enriched in its own phenolic compounds. Nowadays, he belongs to the Nutrigenomics research group, from the URV, which aims to generate general knowledge oriented to the design of functional foods able to prevent, delay or alleviate metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and metabolic syndrome. These studies also allow to increase the value of by-products from the food industry by the obtainment of functional ingredients. His international experience includes the Engineering Research University of Arkansas Center (USA) and the University of Warwick (UK). He is author of more than 50 publications in high-impact indexed scientific journal (h-index 20), seven book chapters and two patents, as well as multiple participations in national and international congresses. He was coordinator of the doctorals programs of Nutrition and Metabolism and Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition of the URV from 2018 to 2021 and nowadays is the Dean of the Faculty of Oenology.
